Retaining walls are structural, drainage, and finish work at the same time. The estimate should cover all three.

01
Ask why the old wall moved
Replacing a wall without understanding the failure can repeat the same problem. Soil pressure, water buildup, root pressure, and age all affect the rebuild plan.
02
Confirm the drainage path
A retaining wall has to manage water behind it. Stone, pipe, weep points, and grading should be part of the scope when the site calls for them.
03
Clarify the finish standard
The homeowner should know how the wall face, caps, joints, stairs, and nearby surfaces will be closed out before work begins.
