Why Paver Driveways Fail at the Base

The visible paver is the last layer. The long-term result is decided by excavation, compaction, drainage, and the edges.

01

The base carries the driveway

Vehicle weight moves through every layer below the surface. When excavation is shallow, stone is thin, or compaction is rushed, the driveway starts to dip and spread even when the pavers themselves look fine.

02

Edges keep the field locked

A paver field needs restraint at the sides. Without secure edges, daily turning and braking can loosen the pattern, open joints, and create low areas that hold water.

03

Drainage should be planned early

A driveway needs to send water somewhere sensible. Pitch, nearby steps, garage doors, sidewalks, and soil conditions should be part of the estimate before the first cut is made.
